Mission Trip

  1. The St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center would like to thank everyone for the generousity and prayers for the spring break alternative trip to Central Mexico. We had an amazingly blessed time down in Mexico. Without your support, the trip would not have been possible!!

The first evening, we received a tour of the cathedral in Mexico City. It was incredible to see the history of the Aztec people and learn about the early Spanish missionaries of the Church. The next morning, the group traveled to Querétaro by bus, and then we all piled into two 15 passenger vans to head to the Santa Maria mission in Colon, Mexico.

After a warm welcome from the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT) community, we got settled into our living arrangements for the next six days. We were housed in the orphanage facilities, living, eating, praying and sleeping as the 300 children in the orphanage do. During these six days, we lived totally “Mexico-style” learning holy flexibility and growing in friendship and faith. There were soccer games with the children, mountain hikes where we learned how to walk by faith, and many conversations in “Spanglish.” On one of the days, we celebrated Mass and served dinner to the poor of the community of Colon. It was such a blessing to meet all of the people that are a part of the Santa Maria community. Drawing near to the end of our stay, it was difficult to say goodbye to the children. Even within such a short time we were able to form strong connections, all based on Christ and his Church.

The final two days of our pilgrimage were spent in Mexico City, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The first day when we arrived, we were able to celebrate Mass in a private chapel with the image of Our Lady in the background. The second day of the pilgrimage, we did a walking rosary up a beautiful hill beside the basilica, tracing the steps of San Juan Diego. On top of the hill stands a Church where Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared. We were blessed to be able to celebrate Mass in the church at the actual apparition site—it was certainly a powerful experience!!

May God bless you now and always.
